The Right and Left Are Wrong

Bush intentionally deceived the American public about Iraq WMDs and ties to Al Qaeda to justify the invasion. It is revealing that when these claims were eventually debunked, the majority of Americans (52%) did not care. It seems as though this slightly prevailing attitude amounts to this: even if starting this war was not justified, we are in it, we need to accomplish something and we are far more noble than our enemies.

Many on the Left were correct in predicting the mess that now exists in Iraq. After all, what would one expect to happen if the World's biggest bees' nest is whacked with a big stick?

Where many on the Left are very wrong is in "sympathizing" with terrorists. There are valid criticisms of America and Israel in the present, extended Middle East conflict; however, it is absurd to think that these democracies are evil imperialists disrupting the "harmony" of the Region. Although it was not the stated reason for going to war and it does not justify the invasion, the face of the enemy has certainly been revealed. Islamicist violence towards the West is not new, it only seemed to "hit home" on 9/11/01. It may be folly to believe that America can impose democracy on Iraq, but one thing is clear: Sadaam's minions and the facist regimes throughout the Region are very threatened by it.

Bizarrely, due to the "incorrectness" of the war, some of the Left has come to sympathize with the governments who oppress, torture and kill their own and sponsor terrorism throughout the world. It is only through incredible spin that Israel is portrayed as the bully. It is a tiny nation on a dot of sand so small that the Country's name cannot fit within its boundaries on a World map. It is surrounded by countries and an extended culture that is avowed in its mission to push the Nation "...into the Sea." And Israel has repeatedly attempted to allow for a Palestinian Nation.

America continues to slog through this quagmire of a war, started with fraudulent pretexts and prosecuted with hazy goals and no clear exit strategy or end in sight, against a genuinely evil enemy.
